This was a hard blog to write because honestly, there is just so much great stuff to share about the recent Gartner Data and Analytics Conference in Orlando, FL that even AI summaries fail to do it justice. But I was there, and I promise to give you the scoop, the details, the low down, the skinny if you will, on some of the highlights of the conference.
The data.world team was there in full force from booth workers, presenters, and those of us just there to learn. Honestly, there’s more to share than would fit in a single blog without it turning into a lecture, so I’ll do my best to summarize.
While AI is starting to head toward buzzword territory, companies everywhere are still pursuing leveraging existing AI tools for their business and developing their own models. Already, the number of companies taking steps to ready their data for AI model experimentation and production is rapidly growing. What’s the key to this? Governance, governance, governance. Put more simply, people want:
Data they can find and understand
Data they can trust
Context on the when and how data can be used
The ability to realize and create value
Things like governance automation, metadata management, and ways to govern unstructured data are no longer theoreticals. They’re real needs and goals on roadmaps for data teams. The momentum isn’t slowing down.
Knowledge graphs were another growing topic at this year’s conference. As the only current data catalog built on a knowledge graph, that makes us understandably vibrate uncontrollably in our seats. One statistic put out by Gartner said, “By 2026, graph technologies will be used in 80% of data and analytics innovations, up from 10% in 2021, facilitating rapid decision making across the enterprise.”Even from other attendees, we heard “being built on a knowledge graph early will result in the best catalog approach today”. This growth in the awareness and adoption of graph technology is now being seen as a key step to realizing future AI success. We’re excited to see what that brings.
While we did learn a lot in our time at Gartner D&A, we weren’t just there to listen. We had our own busy, action-packed agenda.
Juan Sequeda and Tim Gasper, host of the Catalog and Cocktails podcast, took the stage with Krysten Morris (Post Holdings) and Mary Lou Pirrera (Campbells Company) in our session, “Governance Is No Longer a Back-Office Function, It’s Everyone’s Opportunity.” We packed the room, because people wanted to learn how:
Governance has moved from compliance to opportunity
User-centric governance can meet people where they are
Governance comes to life in big, transformational projects
To empower super users through the “Robin Hood” Effect
Don’t worry about missing the session. We brought the team together again on the Catalog and Cocktails podcast so you could still get the scoop if you didn’t want to participate in a possible fire hazard of a session (yes, it was that packed).
Also on the product front, we unveiled our new AI-assistant for the catalog; Archie Chat. Now you can chat with your data through multi-turn conversations. Archie Chat helps you discover trusted data in a transparent manner. You can drive further adoption of the data catalog to your users at any level.
Archie Chat is the perfect tool for the simpler, smarter catalog by:
Empowering discovery with a simplified search process in direct conversation with your data catalog.
Driving adoption with simple, natural language questions and answers wherever your users are.
Protecting trust in answers from Archie Chat, thanks to documented thought processes and run details while you’re sure your data is staying in your control.
You can learn more about Archie Chat through our blogs and our recent press release!
Wow, that was a lot. I wanted to be brief but so much was packed into the conference, it feels impossible to narrow it down and still give you a fair picture. Rather than letting this paltry blog be your only lens into the insights from Gartner D&A 2025, come talk with us! Share your insights from the conference and learn more about our time there. You can also demo our latest features including Archie Chat.
You can also learn more about our session with Krysten and Mary Lou through the Catalog and Cocktails podcast, hosted weekly on LinkedIn by Juan Sequeda and Tim Gasper.
So long for now and hope we get to talk to you soon!
